I texted myself a note so I would remember the awesomeness that was my Saturday night:
Shovels. Stilts. Masks. Haz mat suit. Fairy wings. Tutus. Goalie Helmet? Sweet drum/ish-ness. Curly hair.
This all describes the Canadian dudes in Gobble Gobble, who opened for Baths at Stickyz. Truly one of the strangest, albeit entertaining, shows I’ve been to in a while. Not only was it just nonstop dancing, but there must have been some sort of Asian wedding because there was a group of about 50 people under 5 feet tall who were going NUTS I tell you.
Baths was amazing. Will Wiesenfeld is a super sweet guy who continued to apologize for technical difficulties - although I’m not sure anyone in the crowd would have noticed if he hadn’t said anything. He put on a stellar show and even managed to brush off the fact that a very skanky woman had been gyrating on a chair for about an hour, whilst being cheered on by her husband, aptly named Mississippi. Uh huh. That happened. And I have photos.

Widespread destruction from Japan earthquake, tsunamis
I can’t imagine the devastation. This is heartbreaking. Let us keep them in our prayers and hearts. For we should never take anything for granted.
Go check out Heypenny. They put on a hell of a live show. And pretty sure Aaron has THE sweetest drum kit I’ve ever seen. Looks like neopolitan ice cream.
create your own scallop skirt. i LOVE this.
i can sew and all… but my mom is MUCH better.
Devotion Poem No. 100
Dear I am dirty snow for you I am
the in-between times when nothing gets done I
am the slow excruciating growth and
the sweet face gone ugly with waiting I am
winter’s grey vomit I am the grinning gutter
and for you I am the pink flesh abiding
beneath the fingernail
If life is a fistfight
for you I throw myself into the middle, I bleed for you
steadily through the meantime, I start up
with strangers and I bruise at just a touch I may as well
tell you now I am blood in the snow for you
and I am the waiting at the sideline for to dress your wounds
Let’s look at the facts: most of what we do here
is in-between, and the other times we are hoping
for it to be over soon, to go back to the painful waiting room
which now we see was paradise and wait
So for you I am a magazine I am your
dirty bleeding papercut, I am the poisoned sloppy puddle
on your walk back to the car I am
the aching growth in your belly you can feel
for months on end, the abiding pain which teaches you nothing
I am the dirty gutter grinning, your dry winter skin burning I
am for you the frozen heart, the cruel rhythmless melting
Clearly, this is why I want a golden retriever.
Except I’m teaching mine to do the Stanky Legg. And how to Dougie.
Check out this jam from J. Roddy Walston & The Business.
These fellars will be at Juanita’s on Sunday, September 19. Don’t miss it.
Thanks to @nomdstbear I now know about Alpine. Too Safe (free download at No Modest Bear) is the jam and the rest of the songs on their MySpace page are gaining on it. So follow them on Twitter and find them on Facebook because I know whatever they have in store for us is going to be epic.
Update:
And @starslingeruk just posted this remix.
YAWN is a band out of Chicago that I’ve come to love. I’ve never met a song of theirs I didn’t like.
